About Central Virginia Accountable Care Collaborative or Centra Alliance

Central Virginia Accountable Care Collaborative (CVACC), or Centra Alliance, was formed to collectively create processes and clinical initiatives that are designed to control costs, improve quality of care of the community and improve the patient experience for Medicare patients. It is envisioned and encouraged that physicians and physician practice groups and other health systems will join the CVACC in this bold, innovative initiative.

“In order to better coordinate and improve the care for our Medicare population, and to be accountable for their outcomes, both Centra and our ACO providers have formed a unique network to provide an even better experience of care for our Medicare patients,” said Matthew Johnson, MD, Executive Medical Director at Centra.  The CVACC is a physician-led Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in Central Virginia. This model of care brings employed physicians, independent physicians, and Centra’s resources into a more clinically and financially aligned business partnership. The flexibility of an ACO also better prepares us for any changes to the nation’s health care system driven by government reform. For more information on Accountable Care Organizations, please review the CMS Beneficiary Fact Sheet.
